European Day of Languages - Code Breaking with GCHQ

Updated: Nov 2, 2023

During the celebrations for European Day of Languages, Mrs Robertson held a code-breaking workshop based on a puzzle issued by GCHQ (the government’s intelligence agency).

Students had to translate the names of the famous monuments into English and work out which language was spoken in that country.

The first letter of each monument name was then taken to spell out a code word – a famous code-breaking location in the UK. Can you solve the puzzle?
