We are lucky at Sacred Heart that many of our students speak languages other than English at home. This both enriches the culture of our school and can also be beneficial for the students as they have often developed the skills necessary for being successful language learners. They are likely to have language 'detective' skills which can help them to make links between languages, learn vocabulary and to predict grammatical patterns.
At lunchtime on Wednesday 27th September, students from Year 7, 10 and 11, many of whom speak other languages, took part in a Norwegian lesson where they were challenged to guess the meanings of various words in Norwegian. They also learnt some greetings, numbers to twenty and some facts about Norway and Norwegian culture.
They also enjoyed finding out about the links between Geordie and Norwegian and sampled some traditional biscuits from Scandinavia.
