Year 12 & 13 students visited the Lifestyle Building at Newcastle College this month, to explore the Chef's Academy Restaurant and state of the art learning classrooms and kitchens.
Year 12 have been set a brief for their examined coursework to develop 3 dishes to go onto a college kitchen menu. They toured the professional kitchen and fine dining restaurant to see how they run, learning about the behind the scenes process from delivery of ingredients, to plating up for customers.
Newcastle College offers the perfect training ground if you want to begin a career in catering or hospitality. They have close relationships with some of the region's best chefs and restaurants who support our students to gain the skills and experience needed for the fast-paced hospitality industry. Restaurants including 21, Six Baltic and Blackfriars are involved in this training.
Year 13 are working on understanding food safety and food preparation in a range of environments for their Unit 2 - Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat. They are currently preparing for their exam in May. This visit allowed them to look at policies, procedures and safety checks in a professional kitchen.
