The library is hosting a ‘Hoot Pursuit’ this year - each class has an owl and for every reading quiz passed, the owl moves along its branch. The students have done an excellent job of naming the owls with 8H's Julio (pronounced Hoolio) being the most adorable.
In Year 7, 7R's Nugget is leading the race with 168 quizzes passed, closely followed by 7C's Barbara O'Bartha (150 quizzes passed) and 7S's Cordelia Nightingale (84 quizzes passed).
In Year 8, 8R's Athena is well in the lead with 143 quizzes passed, followed by 8C's Pink Squidward (96 quizzes passed) and 8A's Toodles (48 quizzes passed).
Altogether, Year 7 and Year 8 have passed 986 quizzes and read over 40 million words. If 1 word = 1 cm, they have read 400 km, as far as London.
Until now the competition has just been between classes, and after half term, tutor groups will receive their first Brag Charts, showing which tutor group is passing the most quizzes and who is reading the most words. This is a great incentive for all Key Stage 3 students to make sure they check out a new library book for the half term holidays and enjoy some reading and quizzing while they are off!
