This week all year groups have had assemblies reminding them of the upcoming School Council 2024-25 elections.
These elections will take place over each lunchtime, which offers all of our pupils an opportunity to vote for the best representatives for their year groups, following a campaign from the candidates. Our Sixth Form pupils support the execution of the elections, and in previous years, it has been a popular event which pupils are proud to be a part of.
The Sacred Heart School Council provides another opportunity for our pupils to experience democracy in action; our candidates create manifestos, campaign and commit to sitting on the Council for the school year. There are currently two representatives from each year group on the Council, which ensures consistency and fairness across the Key Stages and makes sure everybody has a voice.
In past years, our pupils have been instrumental in providing a student viewpoint on many topics: from campaigning for more outside seating to recycling within the school dining hall and classrooms. Last year, the School Council were even asked to provide opinions for external companies. The opinions of the Sacred Heart School Council are listened to and valued.
