On Monday 13th February, the students who have been involved with the Star Club this year, visited Kielder Observatory to meet the astronomers who have been sharing their expertise in our online afterschool sessions.
We used two telescopes to view sunspots on the Sun and although it was a very sunny, clear day, we saw the planets Venus and Jupiter through the second telescope.
We also talked about the difference between meteors, meteorites and asteroids and even handled some real meteorites. We saw samples of rocks from the Moon, which we could touch, and a sample from Mars that we stood on!
We had a great time meeting the astronomers and asking them lots of questions.
