Six of our Year 10 Design Technology students had the opportunity to visit the huge HMRC site that is currently being developed in Newcastle on Pilgrim Street. We were talked through the development and the different stages by a project manager from Bowmer & Kirkland who showed us drone footage, photographs and explained the numerous job roles within this thriving industry.
We then had a guided tour of the site and went up in a cage lift onto the roof which is 9 stories high; the views of the city were breathtaking. Afterwards students excelled in a practical structure building challenge with students from another school; we definitely noticed some young project managers in the making.
To close, a Bowmer & Kirkland employee gave a presentation on his route into the construction industry and the numerous and varied career opportunities that are available.
