Year 11 Kickstart the Spring Term with a Revision Masterclass

As the Spring term gets underway, our Year 11 students have been busy sharpening their study skills in preparation for the upcoming diagnostic assessments. To support them on this journey, they recently participated in a dedicated two-hour revision morning, designed to equip them with essential techniques for effective learning and exam success.

With the invaluable guidance of our Year 12 Study Ambassadors, the session covered a variety of proven study strategies, including:

  • Creating a revision timetable – helping students manage their time effectively and balance their workload.

  • Cornell note-taking – a structured method for summarising and reviewing key information.

  • Acronyms and mnemonics – memory techniques to aid retention of important concepts.

  • Copy-cover-repeat – a simple but powerful approach to reinforcing knowledge.

  • Mind mapping – visualising connections between ideas to improve understanding.

  • Q&A flashcards – a quick and interactive way to test knowledge and boost recall.

  • Breathing techniques to combat exam stress – practical exercises to stay calm and focused under pressure.

These strategies are just a selection from our Professional Learner Toolkit, which is available to access on the school website for students looking to enhance their revision techniques further. The Professional Learner Toolkit can be found here: Professional Learner Toolkit

Diagnostic Assessments will begin on Thursday, 6th March. This is a crucial opportunity for Year 11 to gauge their progress and refine their study approach before their GCSE examinations. We hope that our Year 11 students will approach their assessments with courage and confidence and wish them every success. Keep up the hard work!
